Roy De La Rosa is Tewa Apache and Yaqui. Roy is a Healthcare Professional of 40 years who was educated and trained at the University of Southern California Los Angeles General Hospital as a Surgical Nursing Technician (SNT). Upon completion of his training as a SNT, Roy joined the LA County USC Trauma Team. He later became a Board Certified Surgical Assistant who specialized in Trauma Surgery. Roy’s specialties included Cardiac, Thoracic, Vascular and General Surgery. Roy highlighted his professional medical career as founder of The California State Assembly of Surgical Assistants in California. Currently, Roy is active co-founder of NativeAmericanMade.org
McGyver McCargar is cofounder of Native American Made (NAM) with S. Roy De La Rosa, and currently serves as V.P./Treasurer. He was originally involved with Native American Veterans Association (NAVA) in 2008 as an online broadcast specialist for their monthly Talking Circles. In 2018 McGyver worked with NAVA full-time in a business development capacity and with Roy De La Rosa helped create a Veteran Pilot program with DrKumo, Inc., a new innovative healthcare company segwaying Modern Connected Health Technology. Together with Roy De La Rosa, he co-founded Native American Made (NAM) with a mission to inform, educate and inspire tech savvy Native Youth and veterans to medical career path opportunities. Most recently, McGyver has worked in business development and trained as a clinic staff Remote Patient Monitoring (RPM) educator, and new patient onboarding specialist with NAM’s first benefactor Dr. Kelly Nguyen, CEO of DrKumo, Inc. and DrKumo Academy.
Dr. Melanie Cain is from the Santa Clara Pueblo and Jicarilla Apache tribes of Northern New Mexico. She is a veteran of the United States Air Force and comes from three generations of Native women serving the military.
Dr. Cain holds a Doctorate Degree in psychology from Oklahoma State University and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from California State University Northridge.
Dr. Melanie Cain currently works as a Clinical Psychologist II with the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health. An area of interest in her work is the integration of culturally relevant interventions within a Westernized, public, mental health structure. Most of her clinical career has focused on direct services and program administration with American Indian/Alaska Native populations. Dr. Cain also has experience serving the Native American community with the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health, American Indian Counseling Center and the San Diego American Indian Health Center. Currently, Dr. Cain serves as first director board member for Native American Made.
Dr. Sarita McGowan-DaSilva, EdD, CADC-CAS, (Xra Eni Mi, Baxoje ki, Tunapi Ki- Little Eagle Woman, Ioway People, Blackbear People) is an enrolled member of the Ioway Tribe of Kansas and Nebraska.
Dr. McGowan is a co-lead for the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation’s (HBFF) Native American Family Program, and she is the Native American National Representative for (HBFF). She has over 19 years of experience in traditional and culturally responsive care. Understanding historical, generational trauma and substance use disorders are just a few of issues at the forefront of the Native American population.
Dr. McGowan navigates through the Native communities recognizing tribes are resilient and are rising above disparities and are very much still here on Turtle Island. She previously worked within the California Department of Corrections as the Native American Chaplain.
Dr. McGowan has written her published thesis titled, Becoming Ioway: Using Auto-Ethnography to Understand the Fourteen Ioways’ Journey of Colonization, Spirituality and Traditions Through Tribal Dance Exhibitions (2016). The thesis examines the journey that 14 Ioway Tribal members traveled with George Catlin in 1844 to Europe.
